If there is one improvement I want to continue to carry into 2018, it's my skin! I have dealt with adult acne in the last three years and it's been no fun! From pop-up pimples, to cystic acne, to dark marks, I've experienced it all. Sometimes the cause was sleeping in my makeup. Other times it was my hormones. I really wanted to do the whole natural route, but it just didn't work for me. In October, my skin was going through a crisis and I decided to switch up my skin care routine, and I loved my results after thirty days. So these are products that worked for MY SKIN and maybe they can help you too.
THE BASICS. I love this facial cleansing brush. I'd seen so many videos and comments about using a face cleansing brush, so I purchased the Dual Action Cleansing Brush System from Ulta for $25. This brush really gets all the built up dirt and left over makeup that just won't come off with your hands alone. I have sensitive skin so I only use this brush every other night or if I wear makeup that day. Now that I've tried this one, I will likely invest in the Clarosonic. For my cleanser, I use Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub, $10 which has a salicylic acid treatment. This minimized my breakouts a lot and just does well for my skin. For my moisturizer, I use Aveeno Clear Complexion, $15. It's oil free and also contains salicylic acid to help clear up blemishes. I washed my faced in the mornings and before bed. One product not pictured that I should mention is coconut oil. It works as a great makeup remover.
$PECIAL CARE. In addition to my basic routine, I added facial oil and a mask. I heard a lot about Beauty Counter and the goal to use safer products on your skin. The ingredients are from non-GMO suppliers and they do no test on animals. I chose the Balancing Spa Set, $88, but primarily used the Balancing + Charcoal Facial Mask ($48) and Balancing + Ylang Ylang Facial Oil ($68). I use the mask once a week and used a clean foundation brush for smooth application. It hardens on my face and then rinses away with warm water. I apply a couple of drops of the oil every other night right before using the Aveeno moisturizer. I have combination skin so I thought using an oil might cause breakouts, but I realized my skin drying out was causing more of my breakouts. These products are little more pricey, but well worth it for my skin. If you're looking for something a little cheaper, try Mario Badescu Rose Hip Nourishing Oil, $22 and Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask, $27.
FINAL TOUCH. After further extensive research, via YouTube and Instagram of course, Mario Badescu Skin Care was highly recommended. I purchased the Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser, $8 from Ulta. This cleanser helps with getting rid of old acne marks and dead skin cells with continued use. However, beware! This cleanser will dry your skin out if you overuse it! I only use it twice a week with my cleansing brush and really focus on the dark spot areas of my face. I also purchased the Facial Spray with Aloe, Herb and Rosewater, $7. This gives me an extra boost of hydration and works really well as a setting spray for my makeup. I use this everyday as a last step to my cleansing routine and throughout the day as needed. The travel-size products were complimentary with my purchases.
There are two products that I wanted to mention that aren't pictured because I don't use them often. I've used Clearasil Rapid Action Treatment Gel when I could feel a pesky pimple coming along. It reduced the redness and size by the next day. I've also used Ambi Fade Cream sparingly. The ingredient list is pretty potent, so I applied it with a q-tip a few times a week to really stubborn spots. You have to be careful with that product because a little goes a long way.
My skin is no where near perfect, but it improved so much in the first thirty days and continues today! I'm glad I found products and a routine that is easy to stick to and actually gives me the results I want. Most of the products last well over a month, so I'm not dishing out coins too often. Have you tried any of these products and had success? Did this post help you any? Let me know if a comment or leave a heart below!
