Ya girl is finally back in the states! After living abroad for six months, I'm glad to be home! Unfortunately, I was welcomed back with a sinus cold just twenty-four hours after landing. I'm finally feeling better and had just enough energy to head to the store to shop so I could meal prep with some of my favorite foods. Apparently bean pasta isn't so popular everywhere in the world! Haha!
Now, when it comes to getting healthy and in shape, nutrition is at the top of the list. Meal prepping is so important for me because it prevents me from making poor choices when I'm hungry or when I'm just being greedy! Here are 3 tips that always keep me on top of my meal prep game!
1. Keep the menu simple. Now, there are tons and tons of healthy recipes in the internet universe. That's great. But keeping it simple will keep you sane sometimes. Pick your veggies, pick your meats, pick your carbs, and think of your breakfast. It's easy to just mix and match those macros instead of trying to cook ten recipes in one night.
2. Choose your seasonings wisely. Sugar, spice and everything not nice makes for great tasting food! BUT adding too much is going to slow down the results you're looking for. Brands like Mrs. Dash do a great job of offering seasonings that are salt free. LEMONS are a MAJOR KEY for me when my food seems just a little too bland. Just a squeeze over some veggies or chicken can make a difference.
3. Don't do too much at one time. Meal prepping isn't so glamorous because it takes time and you do have to multitask. However, 4 pots on the stove, 3 pans in the oven and 5 fruits/veggies on the cutting board might get a little overwhelming. Instead, prep your veggies first then begin cooking your meats. Once that's going, put something in the oven and then keep an eye on your pots. No none wants to be in the kitchen any longer than necessary, but you also don't want to ruin all of your food!
I think most of my food, along with my protein, will keep me going until Wednesday or Thursday. My egg muffins with ground turkey and spinach are probably my favorite for breakfast! Did you meal prep this week? What are some of your favorite recipes? Let me know in the comments below!
